Conformity assessment: medatixx practice software confirmed for the electronic medication list
For practice software, hospitals and pharmacies to exchange data with one another, binding standards are needed. Whether a piece of software actually complies with these standards is checked as part of the conformity assessment (KOB) – regulated in Section 387 of the German Social Code Book V (SGB V) and in the Health IT Interoperability Governance Ordinance.
The first use case concerns the electronic patient record, more specifically the digitally supported medication process. At its centre is the electronic medication list (eML) – the overview of what a patient is actually taking.
PDF or structured – a difference that matters in everyday use
For the assessment, it is sufficient to be able to retrieve the eML as a PDF. medatixx, however, has integrated it natively based on the FHIR profile, i.e. as a structured, further processable file. All of the manufacturer's practice software solutions have undergone the assessment and received the corresponding certificates.
What this means for your practice
The difference sounds technical, but it is clearly noticeable in everyday practice. You can view a PDF – nothing more. A structured medication list can be used further by the practice software: for medication review, for your own documentation, without anyone having to type out active substances and dosages by hand.
Particularly for patients who see several doctors and accordingly take a large number of medicines, this not only saves time but also avoids transcription errors at a point where they would be especially consequential.
